Blue Sky Remedy

It has been a long week, an even longer month plagued by gray days. I got out of the office mid-week and was surprised by a beautiful blue sky. I carry my cell phone with me all the time, more for shooting random photos than anything else. I know I wasn't the only one who noticed the instant color, it was the hot topic right after lunch hour.

I'm a watcher of people and have noticed I'm not the only one who suffers from seasonal affective disorder. If a shrink sat outside the Target store and took surveys, I'm certain the percentage of bonafide sufferers would be high.

The cure? For me, there is nothing quite like a blue, clear sky. I have a light box and I take a little orange pill every morning but nothing works as well and instantly as natural light and color.

On my way to the bus stop yesterday morning, I shot this hopeful image. It was super cold but I felt warm and amazingly happy as I saw hope for the day. The sun eventually shined and I'm pretty sure I saw a shift in the overall mood of the peeps in my office.

Glancing out the window this morning, I see we have the promise of another blue sky day.

While the rest of the country is sitting in front of the tube and stuffing themselves with bad food, I think I'll take a road trip and see what I've been missing.

Are you affected by the weather?

love, susan

  2. I am. Yesterday, down here in Mexico it was cloudy and cool. Then last night it started raining. The rain has stopped but it looks like it will be another cloudy, cool day. And as you know, winters in Alaska might have sun, but the days are very short and cold, and where I live, windy a lot of the time. It's hard when you can't get outside because its too cold, or too windy, or too icy. Love your blue sky pictures!!!! Hope you have many more blue sky days in your future. love, Danielle

    1. Hi Dani! Hope you get some blue skies while there. Yes, when i lived in Fairbanks, we got lots of blue skies, not so much in anchorage. Winters are much harder there for sure.

  3. The best kind of remedy! Gorgeous skies! I have a good friend who has seasonal affective disorder and he has the special light. What I have always found interesting is my attraction to dark days. I'm happier on cloudy days than I am on sunny days. I've only met 2 other people that feel that way. I don't know what it is , maybe it's because the bright sun hurts my eyes, but I really dig dark rainy days. I'd do well in Seattle, I think. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a nice day like anybody else but for some reason I just love rainy days. Could be because living in Austin, we've been in a drought for the last few years so rain is seldom here. Your pictures are gorgeous! Are you using the latest iphone? Just curious what phone you're using to shoot. I have both the latest iphone and iPad and I've been really impressed with the clarity of the pictures.

    1. Michele, i have a friend here who prefers gray days and i think its for the same reason. I never knew i had this disorder until my early 30's. I'm not sure how i survived before my light box. This year I'm trying a new therapy that is non-medicinal and it is working! Perhaps I'll write a post about it soon. Enjoy your days, sunny or not!
