I Won the Lottery

Feeling joyful this morning. We're getting ready to take a road trip tomorrow and I tend to get a little insightful the day before. I did not win the lottery. I didn't even buy a ticket for myself but I did go buy some numbers for my girls in Alaska.

Which got me to thinking...

I've already won the lottery in life. A blog post wouldn't be nearly enough room to share all the good things that have happened to me but those girls in Alaska are just one of the half-billion payoffs in my life, if people were money.

I heard on the news early this week the Washington Powerball was up to the highest amount it has ever been. I wondered to myself if my girls were going to contact me to buy a few chances. They did. And, I did. I spent my lunch hour driving over to the gas station to buy chances at a new life for my former sister-in-laws, still-my-friends, hair-designing women. I rarely ever buy tickets for myself and yesterday was no exception. I'm not much of a gambler but I imagined myself feeling great joy if my girls should happen to win. I could be happy for them, no doubt about it. With no expectations.

I headed back to work with the tickets in my purse, texted the numbers and as in past years, thought about those hairdressers talking all afternoon about winning the lottery. I could  imagine the conversation as those girls have been in my life since I was 19 years old. They are family. I'm sure their heads were swimming with ideas about how they'd spend all that money. They would have gotten their wet-headed clients in on the conversation, too. Oh, they'd donate some of it to this charity or that. They'd take a long vacation, probably even quit their jobs.  I would!

This morning, pre-road-trip day, I'm jazzed about the long winding road ahead of me tomorrow. I'm excited to visit a city we've only passed through many times on our way from here to somewhere.

I hit the lottery several years ago and I've been receiving it in daily, monthly, yearly installments.

love, susan

  1. I loved this entry. I feel the same way. The people in my life, the adventures I have had, and hope to continue having, and the beautiful things that make me smile each day - I'm a winner too. I hope you had a fantastic roadtrip. I can't wait to get on the road myself.

  2. I feel like I won it years ago too. Great career, terrific husband, wonderful kids and a beautiful place to live. Now I could find things to do with millions of dollars but we doing just fine without them. Glad to see you on the A to Z Challenge List.

  3. I have won the lottery too....having been through so much the past 3 years I feel as if I have been given a second chance at life. Every day is a gift and I am anxious to unwrap each day and hate to see it come to a close. That's probably why it's 4:30 am and I'm still awake! LOL Miss you, my dear friend.

You Made My Day, Dude!

A couple weeks ago while I was driving back to Portland after spending the night on the Oregon coast, we came up on some road construction ...
