My 2013 "Theme" Word

Mama’s Losin’ ItInstead of a resolution, Mama Kat over at Mama's Losin' It suggests choosing a theme word to live by for the year. I didn't have to think about this one too hard. There are many other words that came to mind but I think this is one that has been on my mind a lot and it wins out.

minimize

At first glance, minimizing might mean the paring down of physical things that clutter up my life. Yes, there is that. And, so much more that could be so much less. Perhaps a list is order ... just suggestions really ... of how I can lean into this word in 2013.

In 2013, I'm going to try to minimize...
  • my thinking about stuff or people that don't really matter to me
  • those areas in my life that are cluttered with junk that waste time while searching for the useful things
  • trips to the store without a list
  • my waistline
  • wasting food and resources by buying things I don't really need or want
  • making too many commitments
  • worry
  • my carbon footprint
What is your "theme" word this year?

love, susan

  1. Excellent theme-word, Mom! I'm going to have to think on this a bit, but my initial thought is to use "motivation" as my theme-word. Here's to an excellent 2013!

    1. I think motivation is a great word for 2013! My word last year, even though I didn't formally say it, was FOCUS! I think I still need to focus on minimizing. Ha! Yes, let's have a good year, shall we?

    1. That's a good attitude to take, Dumb Mama! I agree that "future tripping" steals all the joy from what's happening right now! Enjoy all your waking moments. Happy new year!

  3. Fabulous. I'd also like to minimize things like my stress level, negative thoughts, and occasions when I need to plunge the toilet. Of course, I need to get the kids on board to minimize t.p. use for that one to happen. ;)

    Happy New Year!

    1. Oh yeah! Minimizing negative thoughts is a big one, goes right along with minimizing negative people. What's your theme word for 2013?

    1. I'm hoping it helps me this year with minimizing all the extra stuff in my life. So, what is your theme word this year? Do tell!

  5. I read this post a couple days ago, and STILL can't settle on one word. I keep thinking of the things I want to improve on ... simplify, connect, focus, action. Then there are some phrases that come to mind like, "Do Something" (as in doing even a little bit is better than nothing), or "Move Forward" but now with all this thinking maybe I should go for the phrase, "Make decisions!"

    1. Last year, my favorite word was focus, especially in the winter time. I have a lot of ideas flying around in my head and then never really focus on any one of them. Whenever that starts to happen I just say to myself "FOCUS!!" and it works. I like the idea of having a word or phrase that brings me back to what I want to accomplish. "Make decisions" is an excellent one, especially since the first sentence in your comment says you can't make a decision on which word would be your theme. LOL!!
